Description
[NOTE: This is a reshoot. The original photographs were not satisfactory.]
Well, here it is! The thing I've been working on for so dang long is finally finished!
THIS is a life size replica of the Pileated Woodpecker. It is the largest woodpecker in the state of Missouri, at about the size of a crow.
We have one of these, possibly a pair of them, living somewhere in or around our backyard. It is quite entertaining to watch them hammer a log into mulch when looking for bugs.
This is my hardest, most ambitious project yet! Everything you see was remade at least 2 different times, except for the core support that was in the original. I must have remade the tail feathers at least 4 times.
But it was all worth it!
It is 22 inches tall. The sculpture is made of light weight resin, and the base is made of Forton, a plaster resin composite. Both are painted with acrylic paints.
This is now up for sale! I plan on making a number of copies, no more than 25. If anyone is interested in purchasing a copy, look at my Etsy listing. If you're interested in making a commission, just send me a note or email me at headzonkstudios@yahoo.com. Delivery will have to be discussed prior to purchase.
