Is that yellowiness on his head part of the clay or is it some sort of translucent plastic? Either way it looks great.
I found that it's often better to make a pre-baked core and put second layer of clay over it so that making finer details are easier. With the hard core, you don't have to worry about the whole thing shifting around.
